Carroll Williams Bio
Carroll Williams was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He grew up during the era of segregation and became the first African American student to attend Archbishop Curley High School where he played both football and basketball. Carroll has been called a pioneer of integration of sports in the South. After he graduated from high school, he attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was starting quarterback for three years. At the conclusion of his junior year, he was selected to the All-Catholic All-American Team and was chosen as the 1965 Catholic College Player of the Year (The Brooklyn Tablet). During his senior year, he was select to play in the post-season North-South Mahi Shiner's All Star Football Game in Miami, Florida. In 1967, Carroll graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and minors in Communication Arts and Philosophy. After graduation, he played professional football for the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes and British Columbia Lions. In 1999, the Orlando Sentinel identified him as one on the most influential athletes in the State's history.
After playing in the Canadian League for five years, he returned to his hometown of Miami. While working for the Miami-Dade County Public School system, he became the first African American football coach at the University of Miami under head-coach Fran Curci. Carroll began his 34-year career in education as a substitute teacher. While working as an educator, he earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Northern Colorado and Administration and Supervision Certification from Nova University. Upon retirement he held the position of Principal.
Carroll's professional career did not end with his retirement from Miami-Dade County Public Schools. He currently makes a difference in many people's professional and personal lives by serving as a Life Coach recognized by the Certified Coaches Federation. His company, Golden Eagle Mediations, Inc. dba The Victory Coach, has provided services to a wide range of businesses, athletic organizations and families.
